Recent Jobs

85m test tower

RPS was recently contracted to undertake an environmental impact study for a proposed wind farm. they hired us to install two microphones and a recording unit on two test towers including this 85m mast.

tower work

Cairns Rope Access have been working closely with High Access Communications providing Tower riggers and grounds crew. to assist them on mobile phone towers and masts up to 110m tall throughout central and far north Queensland. Our rope access background means we bring skills and techniques to the table which complement Hi Access's extensive industry knowledge and experience.

110m mast

On a recent job our client needed to remove a 2.5m Microwave dish from the very top of this 110m mast and replace it with a 4.5m dish at 70m. The company's standard procedure is to run a winch through a puly slung off the steel work above then take up the strain un bolt the dish and lower it to the ground with a tag line. this mast presented a few problems firstly we would have needed more than 220m of winch rope and we would be exerting twice the weight of the load plus twice the already considerable wind loading on the very top of this mast well above the top guy wires. After discussing the pros and cons it was decided that we would lower the load from the top halving the force on the top of the mast and only needing 110m of rope the strain was taken up on a small come along then transferred onto the lowering rope on a porta wrap then lowered safely to the ground.

silo clean out

Cairns Rope Access have done another silo clean out for Cement Australia this time in there fly ash silos in Brisbane. in conjunction with transpacific industries we moved about 200t of old product.

silo inspection

Cairns Rope Access has just returned from Gladstone Where we have been performing visual inspections of the inside of Cement Australia's Clinker silos. The Clinker silos are a very hostile environment with poor visibility, low light, very high dust levels, extreme heat and difficult rescue scenarios.

presure wassing a powerstation penstock

Cairns rope access recently assisted Kelly's Aqua Jetting by pressure cleaning the inclined penstock as part of their major conduit cleaning contract at Koombooloomba hydro plant.

refractory inspection

At 11:30 am on a Saturday in July,we received a phone call. Cement Australia Gladstone had called an emergency shutdown on Friday night to perform urgent repairs to one of the kilns. Welders where to enter the the base of the 70m high structure on Monday. The usual procedure is to install a number of protective decks from the top down but that takes about 4 days so they planed to just build the bottom one.

With about 60m of heat bricks and refractory over head there was no way the Riggers where going to be allowed to go in to build it.

Which is why they were calling us. They wanted to know if we could put a crew in Gladstone for Monday morning to perform an inspection and make safe work from the top down, before the Riggers went in. So we set to work and by Sunday night we had a crew in Gladstone with all their kit.

The work went well. We rounded off the trip by providing rescue cover for the riggers building the deck.

builders clean via rope access

Laing O'Rourke has just finished building the new government offices in Cairns and needed to pressure clean the concrete slab edges. They looked at bringing in a large crane to suspend a man box to work out of. However putting a crane that close to the building so near hand over would have been risky, especially with the winds we get this time of year. So when we told them we could do the job quicker cheaper and safer they were interested.

They were still concerned about damaging the the top edge of the building which was made from apolic sheeting so we developed an edge protection system that spread the workers load over a meter.

As usual the wash down came off without a hitch and we were able to save them time and money.

entering a confined space

Cairns Rope Access has just returned from Gladstone where we entered Cement Australia' GP silo. We provided a photographical survey of the roof and helped clear the inward opening door at the base of the silo, allowing access for maintenance.

prep work via rope access. panima on spence

Cairns Rope Access has once again worked in conjunction with Programmed Property Services. We washed, prepped and painted the area above the pool deck at Panama on Spence helping them bring the job in on budget by avoiding expensive scaffolding.

sighn instalation.park regis

sign instalation at height

Cairns rope access recently installed a 7m sign on Park Regis for Expressway Signs using rope access techniques. We were able to prevent a simple job from becoming a nightmare.

Between the initial quote and the installation the council dug up the road in front of the building making the use of machinery impossible.

confined space

Cairns Rope Access was contracted to provide an internal and external visual and photographical survey of the Cement Australia silo in Townsville. The structure is 65m high and 30m wide.

The job required suspended confined space entry into a working silo half full of cement and dispatching day and night.
